“For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, a stranger and you welcomed me, naked and you clothed me, ill and you cared for me, in prison and you visited me.” Matthew 25:35-36

For over 15 years, our dedicated Prison Ministry team has sought to support the spiritual development of men incarcerated at the state Assessment and Classification Center at Roederer Correctional Complex (RCC) through weekly Bible studies. Spearheaded by Stephanie Prost and Karl Weishaar, we have even offered modified studies during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic via Zoom with the help of the institution Chaplain. More recently, the team has been able to return to RCC and to join those behind bars for a time of prayer, scripture reading, meditation, and discussion twice each Wednesday, 6:30-8:00 pm at Roederer Correctional Complex.

Prison Ministry team members may be certified at no cost by the Kentucky Department of Corrections by completing necessary trainings, undergoing a background check, and reviewing necessary policies. Trainings are held several times throughout the year. Volunteers who are not certified through the Kentucky Department of Corrections may still attend the Bible studies with a certified volunteer.

This ministry manifests clearly Catholic social teaching and serves as an opportunity for evangelization. We encourage members of the parish to discern if God is calling you to this special ministry.
